Ask HN: How do you store your LLM .rules?

How do you handle LLM rule files (Eg. .cursorrules, .windsurfrules) in your repos?

We have recently started using Windsurf and Cursor at my job and we still don't have a unified ruleset file that is committed in the repository.

I am looking into committing a "base" ruleset, but then how will everyone add their own custom rulesets on top of it?

How do you do it at your orgs?
