The other day I recounted my tale of accidentally wiping the firmware from our intelligent cat flap. I didn't name the company in question at the time, but this morning I've had a response that deserves publicising:

Dear Alun,

I have got an answer from our engineer:

We are not able to send you a .hex file.

But I will send out asap a replacement PCB from a returned unit. You could then change the board and you will at least get a working product again! Could you please provide me with your shipping address. Thank you.

I can't blame them for not giving me their software - it's clearly commercially sensitive. But offering to send me a board from a returned unit is just brilliant. Well beyond what I deserve, that's for sure.

So, SureFlap, take a bow. Well done!
