Building low-feature apps is good source of calm

All the potential around AI has been pretty exciting. It's fun to be part of a once-in-a-generation tech moment.

It can also be pretty overwhelming. Where do you start? How do you keep up? How do you eke out your own little piece of the action?

Having too many options is only the first problem. The second problem: there are more entrepreneurs chasing all these ideas than at any point in history. With three versions of every app, each one looking like a full-featured SaaS product that's been around half a decade.

If "comparison is the thief of joy" then this era might have more potential for joylessness than any in history. What's a builder to do?

My answer? Low feature builds. You know what people need? Simple, reliable, useful tools. Build those.

Did someone already build a simple version of your tool? Not to worry. They are probably adding features as we speak. Maybe they are chasing their customers as their needs get more complex. Maybe they are striving for VC targets. Either way, it gives you an opening. Build something simple.
