Tangerang. Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD has officially launched its most affordable EV model to date, the Atto 1, in Indonesia -- priced at under Rp 200 million (approximately $12,270). The launch took place at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) on Wednesday in Tangerang, Banten.
Known globally as the BYD Seagull, the Atto 1 will make its Southeast Asian debut in Indonesia, which will serve as the entry point for the model’s regional rollout. The launch is part of BYD’s broader strategy to tap into the underserved entry-level EV segment in the region.
“This launch in Indonesia marks the first release of the Atto 1 in ASEAN, and the car is now available for pre-order,” said Nathan Sun, Operations Director of BYD Motor Indonesia.
The Atto 1 will be available in two variants:
- Dynamic: Rp 195 million ($12,000), with a driving range of up to 300 kilometers
- Premium: Rp 235 million ($14,800), offering a range of up to 380 kilometers
This pricing positions the Atto 1 as the most affordable BYD model in Indonesia. For comparison, BYD’s other models currently retail at significantly higher prices: the Seal starts at Rp 629 million, the Atto 3 at Rp 515 million, and the Dolphin at Rp 425 million.
With its competitive pricing and growing consumer interest in electric vehicles, the Atto 1 is expected to become a strong contender in Indonesia’s EV market. The country, Southeast Asia’s largest automotive market, saw EV penetration double to 10 percent in the first half of 2025, up from 5 percent a year earlier.
