C2: Identity Shop

Hello there sir, welcome. Looking for an upgrade or something completely new perhaps?

Oh emergency upgrade, I see. Well I hope everything’s alright, let me just pull up your history and find out what we’re working with.

So from what I can see here you first purchased from us 15 years ago and went for one of our base models, yes I see, scientific materialist base model with philosopher core, is that right? And from our records the scripts ran largely without issue apart from the standard dissociation and disembodiment side effects is that right?

Wonderful. And then 10 years ago you purchased a specialised install of… oh my, yes, these were all the rage back then weren’t they.. though 10 years, my my, that is a long time to be running the install. Particularly powerful specialisation this, And with the hivemind functionality to boot, yes, definitely not one for the faint hearted.

I see you got the standard value package: independent thinking, maximisation etc. And which of the four focus areas did you choose? Of course, the classic choice, don’t know why they bothered with the other options really.

Alright, so lets go through the maintenance behaviours inventory:

  • Stronglifts 5x5?

  • Huel?

  • T-shirts?

  • Modafinil?

  • Podcasts?

Ok, that’s a score of 17 so very good, no issues there. And now for the model vulnerabilities inventory, any exposure to the following:

  • Literature?

  • Spirituality?

  • Grass?

Oh wow, ok I can understand why you’ve come in to see us. We’re going to pop you in the scanner now to see if there are any lasting effects.

Ok great, all done.

Now I’m sorry to let you know this, but there is some significant damage.

As we would have mentioned in the initial terms and conditions, the specialisation is experimental, and we’ve identified a number of internal consistencies and tangles. Normally this would trigger a rejection by the host, but in rare cases like yours we actually see the graft rejects the host, a very hairy state of affairs indeed.

Most people opt to make use of the supplementary identity add-ons as needed, to counteract the strain on your system, but I can see you haven’t done that. This is another of the problems with this specialisation, downstream of the unbounded maximisation function.

The upshot of this is significant fracturing and splintering, as we can see in the scans, and is no doubt the cause of your current distress.

Usually I’d recommend switching core model, with tech bro or libertarian as the two main options. Unfortunately due to long-term use, you’ve developed a dependence on the specialisation which severely limits the number of compatible models.

There are only two options, neither of which are particularly attractive to be perfectly honest.

One is AI Safety. This is very similar in nature to your current specialisation, and so should minimise any issues from the dependency you’ve developed. Though it is also an experimental model, and likely has many of the same inconsistencies. The main advantage here really is that there’s a very large amount of investment in the models development, which will hopefully mean that these consistencies can be ironed out in future versions.

The other is Buddhism. This is a very unique model, in fact it’s a bit of a stretch to call it a model at all. The values and beliefs in the standard package are in fact completely empty. This will likely be very unpleasant given the dependency you’ve developed, but it at least will ensure there’s no long term inconsistencies.

What do you think?
