Why is Dropbox Passwords being discontinued?
As part of our efforts to focus on enhancing other features in our core product, Dropbox Passwords will be discontinued on October 28, 2025.
We recommend transferring your passwords to another password manager application such as 1Password—a highly trusted and secure password manager.
When is Dropbox Passwords being discontinued?
Dropbox Passwords will be fully discontinued on October 28, 2025. There will be product changes happening in a phased approach. Key dates include:
- 8/28/25: Dropbox Passwords will become view-only in both the mobile app and browser extension. You’ll still be able to view your saved usernames, passwords, and payment information, but you won’t be able to add new ones. Additionally, the autofill functionality will be deactivated.
- 9/11/25: The Dropbox Passwords mobile app will stop working. However, you will still be able to access your Passwords information through the browser extension.
- 10/28/25: Dropbox Passwords will be fully discontinued. You’ll no longer be able to access or add any saved usernames, passwords, and payment information and these entries will be permanently and securely deleted from our servers. The dark web monitoring feature will be discontinued.
How do I export my Dropbox Passwords data?
We have a few different ways to export stored passwords from Dropbox Passwords to other password managers. We recommend using 1Password to easily import your password details and keep your accounts protected going forward.
What if I miss the export deadline?
Unfortunately, once the final shutoff date passes on October 28, 2025, we will not be able to retrieve your data. We encourage you to export your passwords as soon as possible.

What happens to the stored passwords?
After October 28, 2025, all Dropbox Passwords data will be permanently and securely deleted.

How can I import my data to 1Password?

How can I import my data to another provider?
Other providers might need different information to import your Dropbox Passwords data. Contact them after you exported your Dropbox Passwords data into a CSV file using the steps above.
Is my data still secure during the transition?
Yes. We will continue to uphold the same high standards of encryption and security to protect your data during this transition.
How can I ensure my exported data is secure?
When exporting your data:
- Save it to a secure device.
- Do not share or store it in an unprotected location.
How can I see which of my team members are using Dropbox Passwords?
To see which of your team members are using Dropbox Passwords, go to the Passwords page in the admin console. If a team member has a Passwords score, then that indicates they are using Dropbox Passwords. If it says Inactive then that user is not using Dropbox Passwords. How will my team members be notified about these changes?
We recommend that admins directly notify their teams as soon as possible.
Team members will also receive notifications in the Passwords mobile app and browser extension a couple weeks after initial emails are sent to admins. Additionally, as key dates approach, we will send reminder emails to those who have not exported their passwords.
Am I able assist my team members with exporting their passwords?
Each team member will need to export their own password data.

What happens to my current subscription?
