Google background is dark even when in light modeTroubleshooting | Windows (self.chrome)

submitted 15 hours ago by MapleSyrup3232

My google homepage background is dark even in light mode. It is light when signed out. When I sign into another Google account, it is white. Why is my one Google account dark and the other light? I want them both light. Thanks!

I think it is a glitch. happened to mine also .

Yeah, I've been having this problem too. The page is in Light Mode since the bottom and middle are white, and the text on top is black, but just the background seems to have the color of Dark Mode.

Right-click page > Inspect > Console tab > Paste: document.body.style.backgroundColor = 'white'; and Enter.

When I reload the page, it goes back to the way it was.

yes... of course, because the proposed trick via console is OBVIOUSLY only temporary.

Is there a permanent solution? Is this a problem with Google's system?

[–]dpiol 0 points1 point2 points 1 hour ago (0 children)

In my opinion a Google problem.... Chromes seems NOT to be affected, just any other browser

Same thing here, I've tried everything I can think of to change it back.

Edit: noticed it using Firefox, but it's in chrome as well

I'm having the same issue on my Safari browser on Mac. Would appreciate any help if someone finds a solution.

I guess can only wait for their update

Having the same problem. Related to one account, but not others. Only the home page. Has nothing to do with dark / light mode or the browser. Does it in Chrome, Opera, Firefox, etc. Just home page. Nothing else.

same here.

To solve it, I use the 'Stylus' addon

for chrome:
https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/stylus/clngdbkpkpeebahjckkjfobafhncgmne?hl=en

for firefox:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/styl-us/

Then add this style:
body {
background: #fff
}

For URLs starting with:
www.google.com

I also encountered the same problem. Even after I switched to different browsers and different operating systems, the Google homepage remained with a black background. This is clearly a very serious bug!!!!!!

Yes I have this too. It's not dark mode; toggling dark mode just changes the white bar at the bottom and leaves the rest entirely unchanged. You can't even see the buttons next to your account image.

Same issue.

Same here in Safari on Mac. Thanks for posting, good to know it's not just me.
It was driving me nuts this morning. It took me a while trying to get out of dark mode before it started to dawn on me that this was it. It always takes me a couple of refreshes to get Google out of dark mode after my system switches to light mode, so it did not immediately occur to me it might be a new interface or a glitch.
