High-speed rail plan – European Commission

2 hours ago 1

In November 2025, the European Commission unveiled a comprehensive plan to accelerate the development of high-speed rail across the EU.

The aim? Better connecting Europe by train and shortening travel times, all while bolstering the EU's global competitiveness and making travelling in the EU more climate-friendly.

Connecting Europe by train - faster.

The new plan outlines concrete actions to better connect the EU through fast, comfortable, safe, and reliable rail services. More and better connections will bring us closer together, considerably shortening train travel times. For example,

  • by 2030 passengers will be able to travel between Berlin and Copenhagen in 4 hours, instead of the 7 hours required today.
  • by 2035, Sofia and Athens will be a train trip of 6 hours apart, reducing travel times by more than 50%.
  • new connections will make it possible to travel by train between the Baltic countries as of 2030, and from Paris to Lisbon via Madrid by 2035.

And more! Read all about it below.
