It is no surprise to anyone, that finding a job in tech in 2025 is not a simple task. It was actually never easy, but in last two years, the situation has become even more challenging. Let’s try to understand if this is actually true, and why.

The market is seeing job cuts, like never before. With many sector affected, technology is leading the pack when it comes to layoffs. The popular layoff tracker Layoffs.fyi is reporting at the time of writing this article that almost 160K tech employees have been laid off in 2024 and about 63K in 2025. Large companies are forecasting even more layoffs in future [1].

Besides existing jobs being cut, another point that doesn’t help the job search is the fact that many companies are also hiring less, even for entry level jobs [2]. The cause is the uncertainty in the economy on one side, and AI job automation on the other.

So this is what we have now - a lot of tech workers laid off and looking for new jobs, people new to the industry are looking for news jobs, but the amount of jobs is shrinking. Finding a job in these conditions is extremely diffic ult, just because there is much more competition. Instead of 20 decent candidates for 1 role, now you have 200 candidates competing against you.
