so i’m working on a newsletter. in this newsletter, i want to tell the stories of local coffee shops in sf.
what exactly does that mean? something along the lines of:
who made your coffee?
why did they open their coffee shop?
which drinks are on the menu? why?
why do the drinks taste the way they do?
do they roast beans? why did they choose the beans they did?
which food items are on the menu? why? how do they make them?
who comes to the coffee shop? why?
why is the space designed the way it is?
coffee and other similar drinks are such an important part of our culture. a few slices of that culture that i personally enjoy:
coffee brings people together
coffee allows us to make something for someone else (my fav)
coffee shops provide us a fresh new space to gather — even if gathering just means a laptop and some work
at first the impact of this feels small, but then i imagine my city without coffee shops.
tourists half way through their trip that would just love a seat and a quick pick-me-up
friends squeezing in a quick catchup in between meetings
freelancers tired of working from their home office
the informal job chat happening over lattes instead of in someone's office
a morning coffee and walk with a friend, instead of a solo cup in your kitchen
there are many ways in which we connect with others, but one of my favorites is over a cup of coffee.
i think it would be super cool to hear the story of the coffee you drink and the coffee you shops you visit regularly. do you know story behind your favorite coffee shop?

i’m also thinking of documenting the process of building this newsletter. here on substack, i’ll write about what i’m learning, how the audience is evolving, and why i’m interested in it.
v excited,
shreya
