Lessons learnt about life through art, and art through the lens of life

  • learning to get the proportions right - step back and look at the big picture every now and then so you don’t get caught up in working on the fine details

  • learning to sketch with rough and feint lines at the start - allow yourself to visualize the scope and be able to make adjustments as you go

  • learning to fold flower petals - understanding the relationship between the concept, material and technique

  • learning to fold miniatures - understanding the relationship between scope/scale, resources and process

  • learning to blindfold (without having to look at your hands) - learning to do something simple and well until you can perceive it in different ways

  • practicing mirror writing form - train yourself to perceive things from a different perspective until it becomes natural

  • practicing to write larger than normal - train yourself to see how mistakes are amplified, and how they are more hidden when the scope/scale is smaller

  • go with the flow when glazing - control the things that you can, and let patience, process and experience guide you through the rest

  • mending objects that are broken - in a way that values accepting imperfection, finding beauty in simplicity, and appreciating natural beauty
