cynical-me knew it, they "improved" the rubber rather than using a different material entirely! you can see similar at the thumb pad too… they kept talking about "stain resistance" as if that was the issue.
edit: cynical-me was wrong! no more rubber! a user in the NL got one early.
[–]NoPhilosopher1284 4 points5 points6 points 2 days ago (19 children)
What exactly would you want them to use anyway, snake leather? They use random plastic and you'll say it's too cheap and not worth the price. The rubber is great as long as it's clean.
[–]pulpstudio 1 point2 points3 points 1 day ago (0 children)
Bro for this price I want real crock leather..
[–]skyleth 0 points1 point2 points 2 days ago (17 children)
almost anything, it's not like this soft touch rubber is the only available material to make input devices out of. i've had my MX Master 3 for about 5 years now, and even with weekly cleaning the rubber is still degrading and even in parts that I don't actively touch like the front-right tip by the right click. Logitech aside, almost all soft-touch rubber elements used in consumer goods fall apart and get sticky - even my Bodum burr grinder that I pulled out of storage had this issue. my MX Mechanical has no soft-touch surfaces and "too cheap and not worth the price" are not things I describe it as without the rubber.
[–]NoPhilosopher1284 0 points1 point2 points 2 days ago (0 children)
They have to make the mouse stand out against the cheap Chinese rip-offs somehow... Maybe they've made it this time with the rubber, we'll see. I'll be willing to try, as I've never really had a problem with the coating. Maybe it depends on how much your hands sweat. Mine hardly do.
[–]danny12beje 0 points1 point2 points 1 day ago (15 children)
almost anything
Such as?
[–]skyleth 0 points1 point2 points 1 day ago (14 children)
well, looking at some other comments an "Official Logitech Representative" has said "not rubber" so looks like I don't have to be the one doing their materials work for them!
edit: another post confirms
[–]Puzzleheaded_Sun7356 -1 points0 points1 point 1 day ago (13 children)
Not sure why people have a problem believing the rubber sucks. I have an old MX desktop which is so sticky now it's unusable.
[–]NoPhilosopher1284 2 points3 points4 points 1 day ago (12 children)
Been heavy-using two Masters for the last 10 years and no probs really.
[–]Puzzleheaded_Sun7356 0 points1 point2 points 1 day ago (11 children)
Sure. But you see, they know it's a problem. So your experience doesn't really matter
[–]NoPhilosopher1284 0 points1 point2 points 1 day ago (3 children)
Yeah, we'll see in two years how they've actually performed with regard to "stain resistance".

There’s still rubber on the thumb rest, as per the guy that got one early.
[–]skyleth 0 points1 point2 points 1 day ago (1 child)
I guess I can’t have it all
[–]RememberTheOldWeb 0 points1 point2 points 1 day ago (0 children)
We COULD if Logitech actually listened to feedback and didn’t design with planned obsolescence in mind… every single $100+ mouse I’ve ever owned that has rubber where my thumb rests has degraded LONG before the mouse itself has stopped working. After dealing with it on my G703 (which I fucking BABIED), I’ve vowed never to buy another mouse with rubber ever again. I was seriously considering the MX Master 4, depending on whether or not it had any rubber on it… Will look for rubber-free G703 clones instead.

[–]RememberTheOldWeb -4 points-3 points-2 points 2 days ago (4 children)
“Built to last,” but still uses fucking rubber. Fuck off with your rubber, Logitech. Add rubber grips in the box for people who ACTUALLY WANT THAT SHIT and keep built in rubber sides off your products.
I had seriously considered getting the MX Master 4, but I’m not going to buy another mouse with shitty rubber that will get gross and unpleasant to handle long before the mouse itself stops working.
[–]ATXsantucciOfficial Logitech Representative 1 point2 points3 points 1 day ago (3 children)
It’s not rubber. Not sure where this rubber info is coming from.
[–]RememberTheOldWeb 0 points1 point2 points 1 day ago (2 children)
Someone who got the mouse early said the thumb rest material is rubber. If it’s not rubber, what is it?
[–]No_Preference9093 0 points1 point2 points 3 hours ago (1 child)
He replied to someone else somewhere and said silicone
[–]RememberTheOldWeb 0 points1 point2 points 2 hours ago (0 children)
And as I said in response to him, silicone has problems as well. Have you ever tried a silicone smartphone case? They’re GARBAGE. They feel nice and soft at first, but if your hands get sweaty at all, the texture of silicone gets almost greasy. They also wear down over time and get oil stains / start feeling sticky. Silicone takes longer to degrade than rubber and is better than rubber, but it certainly isn’t something “built to last.”
A hard plastic shell with optional replaceable silicone or rubber grips would have been the better option that would have kept everyone happy. Alas. I will not be purchasing this mouse.

Even without that upgrade, I would've bought it because I need a mouse for work. If I was to choose one upgrade I wished Logitech had made on the Master 4, it would be bring the device switch button on top or give the mouse the capability to remap the button. At least, Logitech improved 1 thing that the community asked for.
[–]ATXsantucciOfficial Logitech Representative 1 point2 points3 points 1 day ago (2 children)
You can now switch up to 3 devices at the same time using a button on the Actions Ring. Mapping to other buttons is coming. But you don’t need to flip to the bottom anymore.

You can still assign gestures to the thumb button, but by default it will launch the actions ring. A new button will have gestures by default.
[–]Sneyek 1 point2 points3 points 1 day ago (6 children)
Is that the third button on the side ? I don’t like the position of the ring button if that’s the only button on the soft side part. I enjoyed pressing down, not against the mouse..
[–]opticoin 2 points3 points4 points 1 day ago (0 children)
Same, pressing down and moving the mouse up/down to zoom in/out is one of the most useful things to use. And pressing down and moving the mouse left/right to change desktops screen on my mac is sooo useful as well.
[–]ATXsantucciOfficial Logitech Representative 1 point2 points3 points 1 day ago (4 children)
It’s on the side, just to the front of the forward/back buttons
[–]Sneyek 1 point2 points3 points 1 day ago (3 children)
Okok, so it’s worst than MX Master 3.. nice.
[–]ATXsantucciOfficial Logitech Representative 1 point2 points3 points 1 day ago (2 children)
You can make any button the gestures button. If you want it to be the same as the 3, that’s your choice.
[–]Sneyek 1 point2 points3 points 1 day ago (1 child)
But it won’t as on the 3 the button is on the soft thin edge and I press down on it. Here they all are on the side..
[–]ATXsantucciOfficial Logitech Representative 1 point2 points3 points 1 day ago (0 children)
There is still a button in the same place on the 4, but by default it launches the actions Ring, you can change it to gestures. We didn’t take away any buttons, just added one new button.

[–]danny12beje 2 points3 points4 points 1 day ago (4 children)
At what? Being 125hz for bt?
It's a cheap knockoff, my man. Not a replacement.
[–]dyogenys -1 points0 points1 point 1 day ago (3 children)
125hz is the limit for bluetooth in general since you didn't know. That's why the M5 also has 2.4GHz wireless connection with 8000hz polling... Knockoff of what lol It's the best vertical ergo mouse
[–]danny12beje 1 point2 points3 points 1 day ago (2 children)
So what's the point in getting a device that connects both via Bluetooth and 2.4 that's specifically built for productive workloads if you only use 2.4 or wired for more than 125hz?
Knockoff of Logitech's vertical mouse. Hell it even looks the same lmao
[–]dyogenys -1 points0 points1 point 1 day ago (1 child)
Obviously because bluetooth is more energy efficient. For smoothbrains who can't tell the difference between polling rates it's an option to have the battery last months, which is exactly what logitech should learn. Just make it adjustable. lmao you think it was Logitech invented vertical mice
[–]danny12beje 0 points1 point2 points 1 day ago (0 children)
For smoothbrains who can't tell the difference between polling rates
Hahahahhahaa I bet you say you can tell the difference between 1ms and 2ms fps latency. Hahahahha
[–]YATFWATM 1 point2 points3 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Saw the video. Imho, I think all those "stuff" are gimmicks. Who needs the scroll wheel to scroll 1000+ lines per spin? It's smooth, great. I think the best was the anywhere MX 2, traditional mouse. Portable, feature rich that is actually usable, like the side tilt on the scroll wheel that you could program.
