We know switching between bookmarking services can be a real pain. You’ve got your favorite apps, your carefully crafted workflows, and maybe even some custom scripts that just work perfectly with your current setup. The last thing you want is to throw all that away when you discover a better platform.
That’s exactly why we built our new Pinboard API bridge for LinkTaco.
What does this mean for you?
If you’re currently using Pinboard but curious about what LinkTaco has to offer, you no longer have to choose between keeping your existing tools and trying our platform. Our bridge translates Pinboard API calls into LinkTaco’s GraphQL format behind the scenes, so your favorite apps and scripts keep working exactly as they always have.
Think of it like having a universal translator for your bookmarking tools. Your app thinks it’s still talking to Pinboard, but it’s actually getting all the benefits of LinkTaco’s modern architecture and features.
Why we built this
We’ve talked to plenty of users who were interested in LinkTaco but hesitant to make the jump. They’d invested time in finding the perfect mobile app, setting up automated workflows, or building custom integrations. Starting over felt overwhelming.
We get it. Nobody wants to rebuild their entire bookmarking ecosystem from scratch.
Social bookmarking is deeply personal. The tools you use, the way you organize your links, the apps you rely on - they become part of your daily routine. We wanted to respect that investment while still giving you access to everything LinkTaco offers.
How it works
The technical details are pretty straightforward, but you don’t need to worry about them. Simply update your API endpoint in your existing tools to point to our bridge, add your LinkTaco credentials, and everything else stays the same.
Your bookmarking apps will continue to work exactly as they did before. The same API calls, the same data formats, the same functionality you’re used to. The only difference is that your bookmarks are now stored in LinkTaco, where you can take advantage of our enhanced search capabilities, better collaboration features, and more robust tagging system.
Importing data from Pinboard
Beyond just using your existing tools, we’ve also made it simple to bring all your historical bookmarks over to LinkTaco. Pinboard lets you export your entire bookmark collection, and our import feature can handle that data seamlessly. This means you don’t have to start with an empty account or manually recreate years of carefully curated bookmarks. Just export from Pinboard, import to LinkTaco, and you’ll have your complete bookmark history available immediately. Combined with our API bridge, this gives you a complete migration path that preserves both your data and your workflow. You can read the import documentation here.
What this means going forward
This bridge isn’t just about making migration easier - it’s about giving you choices. You can gradually transition to LinkTaco-native tools at your own pace, or stick with your current setup indefinitely. We’re not forcing anyone to abandon workflows that work well for them.
We believe the best platforms are the ones that play nicely with others. By supporting the Pinboard API format, we’re making it clear that your data and your workflow choices matter to us.
Ready to give it a try? Check out our documentation for setup instructions, or reach out if you have questions. We’re excited to see what you build with this new flexibility.
