Northern Soul is a dance-centric scene that emerged in Britain in the 1960s. It focuses on music made primarily by Black Americans, such as Chuck Jackson, Sidney Barnes, Barbara Lynn, Bobby Hutton, The 5 Royales and Gentleman June Gardner.
After a few decades of dormancy, Northern Soul re-emerged in Britain in recent years thanks to the efforts of ardent fans, including Eve Arslett, 61, and her daughter, Levanna McLean, 28, who hosted the event in Bristol.
