Passive Updates Create Active Resistance

Why sending more reports doesn’t mean you’re communicating better

We often think we’re doing our job just because we’re keeping stakeholders informed.

Weekly emails, dashboards, meeting notes, and updates sent on time.

On paper, it looks fine.

The rhythm is there. The visibility is there. But something still feels off.

You ask for input, and no one replies. You host meetings, but only two people talk.

You send a long update and get one “thanks” in return.

And then one day, someone blocks a decision...

Not because the data was wrong, but because they never really felt part of the process.

They were informed, but never engaged.

This is the hidden problem behind many stakeholder issues.

We treat people like recipients, not contributors.

Like an audience to be updated instead of a group to be connected with.

And the difference is bigger than it looks.

When we rely too much on broadcast-style communication, we confuse output with connection.
