Fact check: Recent claims about Portland made by the Trump Administration

Quick, sourced contradictions to recent statements.

Claim: “Portland is burning to the ground.”

Reality: Protests today around DHS Sec. Kristi Noem’s Portland ICE visit were small and largely peaceful. Local fire services continue routine operations, not citywide fires.

Claim: The judge was “his judge” and should have ruled differently.

Reality: U.S. District Judge Karin J. Immergut is a Trump appointee. She issued orders blocking National Guard deployments to Portland. An appeals court set a hearing for Thursday; the block remains in effect.

Claim: Title 10 allows federal troop deployment here as used.

Reality: The court ruled the legal threshold wasn’t met and blocked deployments for local law-enforcement roles in Oregon.

Claim: California’s Guard can still be sent into Portland.

Reality: California officials say the court blocked sending CalGuard or any state’s Guard into Oregon. Coverage today notes troops remain in limbo while the block stands.
