Replica of Christopher Columbus' Ship Docks in Great Yarmouth

A replica of the ship in which Christopher Columbus undertook his historic crossing of the Atlantic Ocean has docked in Norfolk.

The Nao Santa Maria is moored on South Quay, in Great Yarmouth, and is inviting visitors onboard from July 8.

The ship, described as a floating and living museum, tells the story of the celebrated explorer and navigator, as well as his 1492 Atlantic crossing - perhaps the most consequential sea voyage in history.

The visit follows last year’s stopover in Great Yarmouth by the Galeon Andalucía, which saw thousands of people go aboard the tall ship.

‘’The unique vessel promises to offer a fascinating day out for people of all ages.

"It promises to be a stunning spectacle for people to enjoy on South Quay and learn more about the history of the Santa Maria and Christopher Columbus.''

The ship has four masts, 300sqm of sail, and more than 1.5 miles of rope, with rigging replicating the original 15th century vessel.
