Sass-lang dev embeds "Free Palestine" site alert

Extremism has taken root in certain factions of the Free Palestine Movement. While the recent tragic shooting of two Israeli Embassy staffers in Washington, D.C. was not connected to the Sass project or its contributors, it underscores the sensitivity and potential volatility surrounding political slogans. Introducing a partisan message “ Free Palestine ” into the global alert system is therefore highly inappropriate for a technical documentation site.

Location:

sass-site/ └─ source/ └─ _data/ └─ alerts.yml

Background & Rationale:

  • Authorized but Inappropriate: Although merged by an authorized contributor and "approved by the core developers", the alert system is reserved for project centric notifications, not political advocacy.
  • Code of Conduct Breach:
    • Be Considerate: We must consider the wide array of users and contributors.
    • Be Open and Inviting: Our community welcomes all, irrespective of political or religious affiliation.
    • Be Respectful: Exclusionary or partisan statements risk alienation.

Proposed Change:

  1. Remove the “Free Palestine” alert block from source/_data/alerts.yml.
  2. Restore the file to only include project-relevant alerts.

Alternatives & Discussion Points:

  • Policy Update: Amend CONTRIBUTING.md to explicitly state that alerts.yml entries must be limited to project-relevant notifications only.

Impact:

  • Functionality: No changes to code behavior, solely content removal.
  • Build & Tooling: Unaffected; remaining alerts continue to render normally.
  • Community: Reaffirms the Sass project’s apolitical stance and commitment to inclusivity per our Code of Conduct.
