Show HN: AI Equalizer – Personality sliders for building a better AI friend

5 hours ago 2

Hey HN,

I’ve been exploring how people relate to AI not just as a tool, but as a mirror, partner or friend — depending on their mindset and needs.

This project is called *AI Equalizer*: a conceptual interface where you set fixed “personality levels” of your AI assistant – such as empathy, rationality, mental culture (regional worldviews), depth, directness, or motivation.

Core idea: – Imagine sliders like on a sound equalizer – You fix attributes (e.g. empathy at 40%, strictness at 70%) for 7 days – AI behaves consistently, like a friend with stable values – It’s not about mood-based tweaking – it’s about *forming character and will*, for both AI and user

Why? Most AI chatbots adapt too easily to user whims, which breaks long-term trust. This explores a new model – what if AI resisted you just enough to help you grow?

Currently testing as a concept (no public app yet), early version visualized here: [LinkedIn post with visuals](https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/ai-equalizer-peter-fic-jbsee) (no signup required)

Looking for: – Feedback on idea clarity and feasibility – Collaborators, UI/UX thinkers, skeptics, minimalists – And if you ever felt your AI assistant was too obedient, I’d love your thoughts!

Thanks Peter F.
