One day I was on the Subway, deep in thought, when I noticed the train car I was on had this display for captions of the announcements. At that moment it was conveying a message about how it is unlawful to consume alcohol in the system. The incongruity of the display that usually cycles through the time, destination, and next stops showing "CONSUME" "ALCOHOL" threw me - and that's when I started pondering showing arbitrary messages on those displays.
From this rabbit hole this fun side project that generates GIFs that simulate those same displays was born. It is modeled after the displays inside the newest Subway cars which have been around since 2023.
