Instantly calculate Goods and Services Tax for your business or personal needs. Fast, reliable, and easy to use.

About GST & How to Use

The Goods and Services Tax (GST) is an indirect tax levied on the supply of goods and services in India. It replaced multiple indirect taxes, creating a unified market. It is a comprehensive, multistage, destination-based tax: comprehensive because it has subsumed almost all the indirect taxes except a few state taxes.

How to Use This Calculator

Simply enter the net or gross amount of your transaction, select the applicable GST rate from the predefined slabs or enter a custom rate, and specify whether the initial amount is inclusive or exclusive of GST. The tool will instantly compute the corresponding GST amount, and the total value.

GST is levied at multiple rates: 3%, 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28%. Essential goods are taxed at lower rates, while luxury items fall into the higher tax brackets. This tiered system is designed to be progressive and ensure affordability of basic necessities while taxing luxury goods more heavily.

Any business with an annual turnover exceeding the threshold limit (₹40 lakh for goods and ₹20 lakh for services in most states) is required to register for GST. This includes traders, manufacturers, and service providers. Certain businesses must register irrespective of turnover.

GST simplifies the tax structure, reduces the cascading effect of taxes (tax on tax), and increases compliance. It has led to a more transparent and efficient taxation system, fostering a common national market and boosting the economy by making goods and services more competitive.

The GST Registration Process

GST registration is a completely online process done through the official GST portal. It requires providing your PAN, mobile number, email address, and details about your business. Once verified, you will be issued a unique 15-digit Goods and Services Tax Identification Number (GSTIN).

Calculation Examples

If a product costs ₹1,000 and the GST rate is 18%, the GST amount is ₹180, and the total price becomes ₹1,180.

If a product costs ₹1,180 inclusive of 18% GST, the base price is ₹1,000 and the GST amount is ₹180.
