How to Take Measurements

Bust
Measure at the fullest point of your bust with a soft measuring tape. Make sure that the tape is not too tight by breathing in and out.
Waist
Measure your waist at the narrowest part of your torso, usually just above your belly button. The measuring tape should sit tightly but not dig into your skin.
High Hip
Measure at the top of the hip curve - not at its widest point. Locate the upper swell of the hip over your pelvic bone, about 7 inches below your waist.
Hips
Measure your hips at the widest point below your waist. Keep your feet together and ensure the tape is parallel to the floor.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions About Body Types
Learn more about body types and how to use our calculator effectively.
1
What is a body type calculator and how does it work?
A body type calculator is a tool that analyzes your body measurements to determine your body shape. Our calculator uses the relationship between your bust, waist, high hip, and hip measurements to classify your body into one of seven common body types.
2
How accurate is the body type calculator?
The calculator provides a good approximation based on standard measurements, but body types exist on a spectrum. Some people may fall between categories or have unique characteristics. The more accurate your measurements, the more accurate the results will be.
3
How do I take accurate measurements?
For the most accurate results, use a soft measuring tape and wear fitted clothing or just underwear. Stand straight with feet together. Measure your bust at the fullest point, waist at the narrowest point, high hip at the top of your hip bones, and hips at the widest point around your buttocks.
4
What clothing styles work best for my body type?
Each body type has styles that complement its proportions. Hourglass types benefit from fitted clothing that accentuates the waist. Rectangle types can create curves with peplum tops and belted waists. Triangle types look great with boat necks and statement tops. Inverted triangle types balance proportions with A-line skirts and wide-leg pants.
5
Can my body type change over time?
Yes, your body type can change due to factors like weight fluctuations, aging, pregnancy, hormonal changes, and exercise routines. It's a good idea to remeasure occasionally, especially after significant body changes.
