Show HN: I made 4 albums in 4 different styles over 4 years

2 hours ago 1

For the last four years I’ve been working on a personal project: creating four full music albums, each in a completely different style, written and recorded independently with almost no budget and entirely DIY.

I’m an Australian musician who records in a small home setup, and I challenged myself to explore the styles that shaped me: acoustic folk, psychedelic rock, vintage 60s love songs, and gritty punk/hard rock. I wanted to see how far I could push myself creatively across completely different genres.

This week, I finally finished all four albums and uploaded them to my YouTube channel. No label, no promotion, no team — just me, a guitar, some cheap gear, and a lot of learning along the way.

If anyone’s curious to listen or give feedback, here are the four albums:

1. KD Acoustic Folk & Indie https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WHCMxunCSCI

2. Crunt Crumpet & The Vegemites (psychedelic, surf, blues) https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_l1gEc5MxBFu9O0...

3. Love & Heartbreak (60s-inspired romance/AM radio style) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIE4Vjre6lg

4. The Souled Out Lost Souls Band (punk, hard rock, garage) https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_nPR8glN4cVxagM...

I know the HN community often appreciates long-term personal projects, creative experiments, and the process behind making things. If anyone’s interested, I’m happy to share details about the setup, tools, mixing approach, or the challenges of trying to make four completely different albums solo.
