Hi HN,
I built Mapora after getting uncomfortable with photo journal apps storing my private photos on their servers.
Privacy approach: Uses Google Drive API (OAuth 2.0) to save photos directly to your Drive folder. App has write-only access, never uploads to my servers.
Tradeoffs: - Requires Google Drive (not fully degoogled, I know) - Can't sync between devices (by design - no backend) - Slower than server-based apps
But: You actually control your data. Not "trust us" privacy.
Also maps photos to locations (visual diary), works offline, has polaroid widget.
Launched last week: 29 downloads, learning a lot about organic distribution.
Would love HN's technical feedback, especially on the privacy model.
