A few days ago Medium was down, this is not unexpected, at the best of times I feel Medium is at least somewhat depressed.
But when it came up my stats looked a bit weird.

Now that the 20th has only 2 views and 0 reads seems reasonable. That was the day when Medium was down most of the day.
But the next day it has 0 reads and 0 views and it has been available pretty much all day. This seems pretty weird. An average day when I don’t really try to get any traffic I still have around 30 views.
And in fact I haven’t been keeping upn on trying to get up any views or reads in the last month because it seems like a big waste of time, here’s last month when I did expend effort

Sure it’s more impressive, sort of, but what did it get? The writings of Illuminati Ganga do not seem to fit on Medium, at least they don’t seem to get much promotion. All those views and reads? That’s ones I went out to get. I don’t get any promotion on Medium that leads to views, so I probably shouldn’t be here.
But of course I wondered why I had 0 views and 0 reads, so I decided to go search on Google — Medium Stats Are Broken
And of course Google’s AI had a response

Which I think it should be a big worry for any online brand if Google’s AI describes one of your service’s core functionalities as frequently broken. But maybe that is just me.
I of course went to the Medium Status page linked above
and they reported the same thing as I experienced, that is to say they have a big traffic count of 0.
If your stats are showing 9 views and reads, as it seems is the case for just about everybody, that is an extremely high level of broken.
Really, this is more broken than most of Medium’s history of brokenness for stats, which as Google’s AI notes is a history of frequent brokenness, in fact scrolling down the results of search shows me some results

Gosh it just goes on and on, year after year, people saying “Alright, Medium — these stats are starting to need some explaining”
I mean I thought the stats were broken before, but I was wrong, there is always another level of broke we can reach here.
This was maybe just a warning from Medium, quit complaining about the stats, those are some nice stats you got they can always go away just like that.
That said it seems the stats got fixed at the end of the day, which seems unlikely given how long it takes to fix other bugs in the system but maybe.
Although we still have that thing I noted in my previous article that in between midnight and 10 in the morning my views and reads have always been 0 which just seems unlikely for a global internet. Even if there are 1.5 thousand views in the day before as soon as it hits midnight it goes down to 0. Very strange.
