Indonesia's GoTo Group has completed another stage of its cloud migration effort.
The technology company has moved the infrastructure of GoTo Financial, the company's digital payments unit, to Alibaba Cloud's data centers in Jakarta.
GoTo Financial currently supports digital payments for more than 20 million monthly users. The company hopes that the migration will help streamline its operations, reduce costs, and improve service efficiency.
Patrick Walujo, GoTo Group CEO, said: “By completing this migration with Alibaba Cloud, we've strengthened the core infrastructure that underpins GoTo Financial’s services. The transition also reinforces our commitment to Indonesia’s data sovereignty, with all data being held within Indonesia. As a result of this, our Company is now well positioned for the future as we continue to support millions of Indonesians with trusted, homegrown financial solutions.”
Sean Yuan, regional general manager, South Pacific & Japan, Alibaba Cloud Intelligence, added: “This successful migration shows how Alibaba Cloud’s technologies can support large-scale digital transformation. We’re proud to work with GoTo in shaping Indonesia’s digital future and look forward to deepening our partnership.”
According to the announcement from Alibaba Cloud, the company has three data centers in Indonesia, which are providing computing, container, database, networking, and security services to GoTo.
GoTo was formed in 2021 in a merger between ride-hailing company Gojek and e-commerce firm Tokopedia.
GoTo Group signed two five-year contracts with Tencent and Alibaba in September 2024 that would see the company migrating to their cloud platforms, having previously used US providers including Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud.
Last week, GoTo Group announced it had completed the migration of its on-demand services systems to Tencent Cloud.
Tencent Cloud revealed at the end of last year that, due to the scale of GoTo's migration project, Tencent later said it would invest $500 million in establishing a third data center in Indonesia, spread over the next three years. The third availability zone has now been established.
Alibaba has been operating data centers in Indonesia since 2018, launching a second in 2019, and a third in 2021.
