FAQs

What is PortalVR?

PortalVR is a modified version of the Monado OpenXR runtime that lets you run compatible XR games and apps on your Android tablet or phone. Use any phone—iOS or Android—as a controller to play installed or sideloaded titles as-is.

What hardware do I need?

You need at least one modern Android device to run games and any ARCore- or ARKit-compatible phone for the controller. Most current phones (iOS or Android) work great.

How do I use it?

Open this site on an Android device and follow the download link at the top. For setup guidance and tips, see the documentation.

What's the difference between free and paid?

The free version keeps a watermark on screen and limits sideloaded game recording to 10 seconds. Otherwise, it has every feature of paid and plays all XR content.

How do I get content onto my device?

PortalVR ships with a library of free XR experiences and the Wolvic WebXR browser, so you can launch built-in demos or explore any WebXR app on the internet.

What about my own game?

Build an APK in Unity or Unreal, install it on your Android device, and it runs in PortalVR with the same controls you expect on a headset. For help getting your app working, see the documentation

What should I use this for?

Developers can test builds without a headset, give walkthrough demos anywhere, and capture smooth flythrough footage for tutorials or social posts.
